PERRY POLICE REPORT/Perry man charged in hit and run accident

On October 31, 2018, at approximately 8:00p.m., the Wyoming County Dispatch Center had notified all surrounding patrol units that there had been a hit and run accident in the Village of Castile, at the Castile Cider Mill.

The suspect vehicle had backed into another vehicle and there was a child in the suspect vehicle.

While operating stationary patrol on South Main street in the Village of Perry, Officer Harding observed what he believed to be the suspect vehicle from the hit and run accident traveling east on South Main street.

Officer Harding confirmed the vehicle’s license plate and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle on South Main Street near Washington Boulevard. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was found that the operator of the vehicle, 32 year old Zachary W. Blackmon from Perry, was allegedly operating the motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Officer Harding had Blackmon perform a series of field sobriety tests and after poor performance on those tests, Officer Harding placed Blackmon under arrest. Blackmon was transported to the Perry Police Department, by Officer Spink, for a breath test that showed that Blackmon had been operating the motor vehicle at twice the legal limit with a BAC of .16%.

Along with being charged with driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction within the last 10 years (felony), Blackmon was charged with driving while intoxicated with a BAC of .08% or higher with a previous conviction within the last 10 years (felony), aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger less than 16 years of age (felony), operating a motor vehicle out of restriction of an interlock device (misdemeanor), and open container (violation).

Blackmon was arraigned in the Town of Warsaw Court in front of the Honorable Judge Errington and was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $4,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Blackmon is scheduled to appear in the Village of Perry Court on December 4, 2018, at 1:00p.m. to answer the charges.
