WYOMING COUNTY/Gainesville/Owner sustains burns in shop fire

Eleven fire companies responded to a reported barn fire at 5032 Rt. 78 in the Town of Gainesville on Wednesday morning about 2:30a.m. When fire crews arrived on scene the structure was fully involved.

The structure was a 54′ by 164′ shop that contained two tractor trailers, two farm tractors and many tools. All the contents of the shop were lost in the blaze.

The owner, Lewis Bannister, suffered burns to his hand and was treated and released from WCCH.

Estimated loss is 1 million dollars and the fire is under investigation.

Fire companies from Gainesville, Bliss, Castile, Pike, Silver Springs, Alexander, North Java, Perry, Perry Center, Warsaw and Strykersville were on scene for about 5.5 hours.

Also assisting on scene was Wyoming County Emergency Services, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Correctional, NYS DOT, NYSEG, Town of Gainesville, and the Town of Wethersfield.
