Comedy the theme at ARC of Genesee/Orleans Art and Film Festival

The Arc of Genesee Orleans annual Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month celebration included an art show and comedy-themed film festival.

The community attended event was held at the Stuart Steiner Theatre at Genesee Community College on Saturday afternoon. The art show featured work by individuals served at the local disability service provider.

Anthony Oliver, aka “Laughing Jack” was on stage performing in a fifteen minute standup routine. Oliver, who is from Medina, has been performing improv at the Rochester Brainery for the past two years.

“Mainly its about things that happen to me, funny things that occur when you least expect it,” says Oliver.

Appearing on stage does make Oliver nervous, but he says he learns to use it in his show.

“Seeing people’s reactions, the faces they make, people enjoy it.”

“Laughing Jack is a natural entertainer and we are happy he’s making his debut at our Art Show & Film Festival,” says Shelly Falitico, Agency Director of Development.

All of the films at the festival were from the New York City-based Sprout collection.

“Sprout films are produced by or feature individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, the work is amazing,” Falitico say,

“And this year also very funny.”
