BATAVIA/St. Jerome Guild “Steps into Spring” with afternoon fundraiser fashion show

The St. Jerome Guild held its 3rd Annual Fashion show, “Step into Spring” at Ascension Parish Hall in Batavia on Sunday afternoon.

44 models including adults and children presented fashions from JCPenny’s, the Jerome Collection, Kohls, and Marshalls.

The sold out event was presented to 130 guests who enjoyed a lasagna lunch while they watched the show.

Tickets for the event were $25.00 and basket raffle tickets were $10. They also raffled off two wicker outdoor summer sets.

St. Jerome Guild raises funds for UMMC and every year they give a $10,000 donation. Today’s Fashion Show fundraiser will go towards purchasing a Vein Illuminator which helps doctors and nursing staff identify where infant’s veins are to put a lead line in for other medical reasons. The cost of the Vein Illuminator is $5,000.

“We are a women’s group and thought it was a good idea to support women’s health and maternity,” says Annette LaBarbera, Guild President.

“We like babies, we asked the maternity department what would be a good idea.”

The St. Jerome Guild was started 101 years ago at St. Jerome’s Hospital. The Guild used to buy things like ambulances and help furnish departments like the Coronary Care Unit.

After the merger with UMMC, the Guild continues to run a boutique at the Jerome Center to raise funds. They sell clothing, jewelry, scarves, wreaths, organic skin products and everyday things.

The Jerome Center Boutique is open Mon-Fri from 8:00a.m.- 4:00p.m. and from 9:00a.m.- Noon on Saturday. The Guild currently has 100 members with 50 active members. Anyone interested in joining the Guild or checking out their shop can also go to their website:
