BATAVIA/”Signing Day” at Career and Technical Education Center for three students

The Genesee Valley Educational Partnership hosted a “Signing Day” event on Tuesday morning at the Batavia Career and Technical Education Center on State street road in Batavia.

The event recognized BOCES students that have accepted full-time employment or a scholarship.

Hannah Teide, of Batavia, will be working at Stan’s Harley Davidson in Batavia.

“She was very enthusiastic about working at our place, if she is that enthusiastic we ought to give her a try, she has been that way ever since,” says Darryl Horzempa, owner of Stan’s Harley Davidson.

Jake Day, of Alexander, will be working at Sloat’s Tire Shop in Batavia.

Jake has been working at Sloat’s during the school year and approached owner Todd Sloat, who also is a graduate of BOCES, about staying on to work in the summer.

“I think its a great opportunity to be able to invite and have that career opportunity for somebody that wants to stay on and keep on working,” says Sloat.

” Jake follows instructions, takes it, picks it up real fast.”

“He is hardworking and is a self motivating individual and he pays attention,” says Bob Yates, is teacher.

Jenna Montgomery, of Attica, will be working at the Attica Exchange in Attica.

Jenna found her niche after starting an internship one day a week at the Attica Exchange doing aesthetics cosmetics.

“She wanted to do make-up and didn’t want to touch hair,” says teacher Mary Bestwick.

Bestwick says in the second quarter Jenna was failing with a 50 everage.

“We had to do something, so we got her into an internship at the Exchange and now she has a 97 average and is now working there 4 days a week.”

Jenna is the first licensed Aesthetics person to graduate through BOCES.

“She finally got her grove on and I’m really proud of her,” says Bestwick.

Renee Ackert ,who is a massage therapist at the Attica Exchange, says you can’t pass up opportunity like this, “She fits in perfectly,” she says.

“She is so talented in what she does, I am proud of her and she will have a great career.”

The Batavia Career and Technical Education Center enables kids to participate in apprenticeship-style training and then apply it right into workforce.
