WYOMING COUNTY/Malfunctioning golf cart causes fire at Letchworth Central Schools sports storage building

Five fire companies responded to 5550 School Road, Letchworth Central Schools, at 7:53a.m. Friday morning for a structure fire involving a pole barn storage building.

The 42’x42″x14′ tall pole barn was used to store a golf cart, a gator UTV, along with a large amount of sports equipment used at the school.

According to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, a malfunctioning golf cart stored inside the building caused the fire.

The building and its contents were a total loss.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Gainesville, Bliss, Castile, Pike and Silver Springs Fire were on scene about 90 minutes. Also assisting in scene was the Sheriff’s Department and Wyoming County Emergency Services.

Estimated loss is $120,000.
