GENESEE COUNTY/Field sprayer rolls over car in Oakfield accident

According to Elba Fire Captain Chris Lane, upon arrival a Water Authority worker/Volunteer Firefighter who was doing work in the area located the sole occupant of the vehicle who was able to exit the vehicle under her own power and had no complaints of injuries.

Mercy Ambulance arrived shortly after and evaluated the patient, who later signed off citing no injuries.

The farm equipment involved was a field sprayer which suffered only minor damage and the driver of that vehicle also had no injuries.

Elba Fire’s engine responded to the scene and a hose line was charged due to leaking gasoline from the sedan and assisted in containing the spill with speedy dry and absorbent pads.

Oakfield’s engine arrived shortly after, dropped it’s manpower at the scene and was utilized to direct traffic.

“All in all we were very fortunate to only have one patient that was able to escape this wreck without serious injury,” says Captain Lane.

“As you can tell from the damage, had there been other occupants in the vehicle this could have been a much worse scene. We would like to look at this as an opportunity to remind the public to be extra vigilant of the farm equipment moving across our county roads as harvest season is just starting to ramp up and the amount of damage they can do when involved in an accident.”

“This was also a grim reminder of our depleted available manpower especially during the daytime hours. We are fortunate to have a great working relationship with the Oakfield Fire Department and we’re happy we could assist them today as they have done so many times for us.”

Units on scene, the Oakfield Fire Department, Elba Fire Department (Mutual aid engine, manpower, and Fire Police), Genesee County Emergency Management Office, Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, and Highway and Water Authority workers who happened to be in the area.
