WYOMING COUNTY/Two barns lost in Sheldon fire on Saturday

Two barns were lost in an early morning fire at 3551 Bartz road in the Town of Sheldon on Saturday about 5:42a.m.

Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services says spontaneous combustion of large bales of hay was the cause of the fire. Estimated loss is $350,000 with multiple large hay and paper bales lost in the fire along with some farm machinery.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Nine fire companies responded to the fire. Sheldon, Strykersville, North Java, Arcade, Bliss, Harris Corners, Wales Center, Bennington and Varysburg were on location for 7 hours along with assistance from Wyoming County Emergency Management, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, NYS Police, Sheldon Squad 10 and NYSEG.
