BATAVIA/Batavia man charged after allegedly demanding property at knifepoint

Daniel J. Lewis, 24, no permanent address, Batavia, is charged with attempted robbery 1st, menacing 2nd and criminal possession of a weapon 3rd following an investigation into an attempted armed robbery that occurred on January 1, 2020 at 8:08p.m on Bank street.

Lewis is accused of approaching another person and grabbing onto them while menacing them with a knife and demanding property.

He was arraigned in City Court on January 29, 2020.

Lewis is currently being held in the Genesee County Jail.

According to Police Chief Shawn Heubusch, Lewis is also a person of interest in the January 25, 2020 theft of a Spectrum truck that resulted in a pursuit through backyards, damage to vehicles and fences and a foot chase on Oak street. The Spectrum vehicle was taken from the Bennett Heights area about 11:30p.m.

According to deputies, Lewis was found Monday morning at Rt. 33 and Mill road. A resident in that area says he called 911 after he spotted a male subject inside his vehicle at about 6:00a.m. Its believed Lewis traveled out to the Stafford area on a bicycle.
