WYOMING COUNTY/Garage fire in Sheldon caused by a faulty oil/hot air furnace vent

An unattached 24’x36′ garage at 3214 Rt. 98 in the Town of Sheldon suffered a $75,000 loss after a fire broke out on Thursday afternoon about 3:02p.m.

The garage, owned by James Bray, had multiple lawn mowers, a pulling tractor and tools stored inside and was used as a shop.

Fire companies from Varysburg, Sheldon, North Java, Harris Corners and Alexander responded to the scene along with Wyoming County Emergency Management and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Dept.

Fire crews were on scene about 2 hours and no injuries were reported.

A faulty oil/ hot air furnace vent system was the cause of the fire.
