BATAVIA/Arrest made in Spectrum truck pursuit

The Batavia Police Department has made an arrest in the Spectrum truck pursuit which occurred on January 25, 2020 at approximately 11:44 p.m.

Daniel J. Lewis, 24, was arrested today and charged with 6 counts of criminal mischief 2nd, 1 count of criminal mischief 4th, 1 count of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle 3rd, 1 count of reckless driving, 1 count of operator leaving the scene of a property damage accident, 1 count of unattended motor vehicle, 1 count of unlicensed operator, 1 count of driving on the sidewalk, 3 counts of insufficient turn signal, and 2 counts of failure to stop at a stop sign.

Lewis allegedly stole a Spectrum vehicle from a residence outside of the City of Batavia and led officers on a pursuit. Lewis allegedly drove to the end of Charles Street, which is off of Oak Street, and then drove the vehicle through multiple backyards in attempt to evade police.

While attempting to get away, Lewis allegedly drove through multiple fences, struck 3 parked vehicles, and a residence. Lewis caused over $25,000 worth of damage prior to abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. There were no injuries during the incident.

Lewis is being held in the Genesee County Jail on unrelated charges when he was arrested today.

The case is being investigated by Police Officers Sean Wilson, Jordan McGinnis, Austin Hedges, Joshua Girvin, and Detective Jason Ivison, with assistance from Investigator Chad Minuto of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Batavia Police Department would like to thank the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the Genesee County District Attorney’s office for their assistance in the investigation.
