GENESEE COUNTY/Attica man injured after roll-over accident in Alexander that severed a utility pole in half while the vehicle was airborne

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious injury one car motor vehicle accident that occurred in the area of 9822 Rt. 98 in the Town of Alexander on Sunday evening.

The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting the personal injury accident at 7:15p.m.

Upon arrival, patrols observed a 2014 black Jeep Cherokee in a corn field off the west shoulder of the roadway. It was determined that Timothy D. Johnson, 27, of Attica, NY was the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle. Johnson was transported to ECMC via Mercy Flight with non-life threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee was traveling south on Rt. 98 when it left its lane of travel and crossed over the white fog line and continued off the west shoulder of the road. The Jeep then continued down into a drainage ditch, striking a culvert pipe, causing it to go airborne. While airborne, the Jeep struck a utility pole, breaking the pole in half. After landing on the ground near a cornfield, the Jeep rolled several times before coming to rest in an upright position.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
