GENESEE COUNTY/Garage fire spreads to house in Elba

Elba Fire along with Byron and the Town of Batavia Fire are responded to 7504 Norton road, for the garage fire with flames showing through the roof. The house, 10 feet from the detached garage did catch fire on the north side. A second alarm was requested for manpower due to cold conditions. City of Batavia Fast team and Stafford Fire also responded along with an ambulance.

According to Elba Fire Chief Mike Heale, the first unit on scene was an Assistant Fire Chief who reported the male occupant in the roadway and the female occupant still inside the house with the dog. They were safely evacuated. Chief Heale says it appears there may have been something by the wood stove in the garage that did explode starting the fire in the garage. When the investigation is completed, they will know more. The northside of the house did catch fire as a result. It was about 10 feet from the home. The two adults and one dog who occupy the residence are being assisted by the Red Cross.
