GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Warsaw man, a suspect in a burglary at a business in Pembroke, flees scene, robs employee, involved in a pursuit with Wyoming County deputies

On February 12, 2022, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in regard to a burglary that had occurred at a business in the Town of Pembroke. At the time of the call, dispatchers were advised that an employee at the business was following the suspect in his vehicle.

Once in the Town of Darien, the suspect, identified as 65-year-old Duane R. Hamill, of Warsaw, NY, was involved in a physical altercation on the side of the road with the employee who was following him.

During the altercation, Hamill allegedly robbed the employee of a rifle and his vehicle keys. Hamill then fled the scene and continued south into Wyoming County. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office then located Hamill in his vehicle and then a pursuit ensued. Hamill was ultimately taken into custody by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and then turned over to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

Hamill is charged with burglary 3rd, and grand larceny 3rd in the Town of Pembroke Court, and in the Town of Darien Court, he is charged with robbery 2nd, robbery 3rd, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd and menacing 2nd. Hamill was arraigned in both jurisdictions and released under the supervision of Genesee Justice in both courts.

Hamill is scheduled to appear in Darien Town Court on February 17, 2022 at 5:00p.m. He will appear in Pembroke Town Court on March 3, 2022 at 1:00p.m.

In Genesee County, the investigation is being conducted by Investigator Kevin Forsyth, Investigator Erik Andre, Sgt. Michael Lute, Deputy Kevin McCarthy, Deputy Ryan Young, Deputy Ryan Mullen and Deputy Alexander Hadsall. Several members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the incident.
