WYOMING COUNTY/NYS DEC responds to chemical spill after three vehicle accident in Sheldon

The NYS DEC responded to the scene of a three vehicle accident at Rt. 78 and Factory road in Sheldon on Thursday morning, after one of the vehicles involved in the accident spilled chemicals in the roadway and a yard.

According to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, a pickup truck was struck by a logging truck and the logging truck went off the road, down an embankment, shearing off a power pole and stopping just short of striking a house.

The pickup truck that was struck by the logging truck continued through the intersection and struck another pickup truck that was sitting at the intersection waiting to turn. One pickup truck contained multiple chemicals that spilled in the intersection and a yard.

The NYS DEC along with a cleanup agency responded to recover the chemicals and it was determined that there was not an immediate safety concern with the chemicals involved.

One person in a pickup truck was transported to WCCH and two others were checked out on scene by EMS and did not require transport to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the NYS Police.
