WYOMING COUNTY/Two-time convicted felon charged with money laundering after traffic stop with unrestrained child in vehicle, wanted on multiple warrants

James P. Quinn, III, age 35, of Buffalo, New York, a two-time convicted felon, was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail following a traffic stop in a residential driveway on Creek Road in the Town of Sheldon.

Quinn was the driver of a vehicle which Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop for infractions observed on Route 20A. Quinn drove his vehicle down Creek Road and then down a residential driveway as deputies were attempting to pull him over. Quinn was found to have an eight-year-old child in the rear seat who was improperly restrained, and the vehicle was displaying an improperly used dealer plate.

During the course of the traffic stop, Quinn was found to be in possession of five rubber banded bundles of United States currency in his hooded sweatshirt pocket which totaled $12,769.00. Quinn denied ownership of the United States currency which was then held pending further investigation. Quinn’s vehicle was towed from the scene, and Quinn and his passenger were taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where they were released.

On the same date, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies solicited the assistance of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Andrew Mullen and K9 Frankie assisted by conducting narcotics sweep. K9 Frankie did positively alert to the presence of narcotic odor on the United States currency seized from Quinn’s possession.

Search warrants were conducted on Quinn’s multiple cell phones, at which time probable cause was developed for an arrest. It was also determined that Quinn had given a fraudulent identification to deputies on the date of the traffic stop, and his real identity was revealed during the execution of the search warrants of Quinn’s cell phones.

Quinn was discovered to have multiple warrants for his arrest out of Erie County, New York, and he was found to have a non-driver identification card with a status of revoked. Quinn was also found to have two previous felony convictions. An arrest warrant was issued for Quinn by Warsaw Town Court on March 23, 2022.

On March 26, 2022, Quinn was arrested by Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies on the outstanding warrant. Quinn is charged as follows:

Money laundering in the fourth degree, a class E felony, forgery in the second degree, a class D felony, offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony, criminal impersonation in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, unlicensed operation, driver’s view obstructed, misuse of dealer plate, back seat passenger age 8-15- improper restraint

Quinn was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court where he was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail without bail.

Quinn is scheduled to return to Warsaw Town Court on April 25, 2022, for further court proceedings
