BATAVIA/May Day Rally held at City Centre in commemoration of International Workers’ Day

On Friday, May 1st, a rally in commemoration of International Workers’ Day was held in front of City Centre on Friday afternoon.

The group joined over 1,000 cities nationwide as part of the nationwide effort, May Day Strong
[https://www.maydaystrong.org], to demand, “Workers Over Billionaires.”

“If you’re not saying something, you’re implicitly accepting the status quo, says Logan Cole, co-host and secretary of Genesee County DSA. So, it’s important to come out, democracy is not just voting, democracy is having a say in something and making yourself heard. Us coming out is us taking democracy, because democracy is not always granted to us.”

Logan also says labor and union leaders are being targeted by ICE.

He says Dolores Bustamante, a local farmworker was targeted in late April and is in ICE custody.

Jane Schmieder, a local attorney, co-hosted the protest rally on behalf of GLOW Community Alliance.

“Our local community is full of good, decent, hardworking citizens who are appalled by recent government actions (war in Iran, ICE’s abuse and detention of immigrants, cuts to social welfare programs). Our democracy and our election integrity are severely threatened,” said Schmeider,

“People want to show their opposition to a government which has turned against us, and against all nations. We want to exercise our right to peaceful protest in the heart of our community. This is the fourth Batavia protest in the last year.”

One Comment:

  1. Not a blind little sheep

Joe Biden opened the borders and flooded this country with ILLEGALS. Now taxpayers are paying $150 billion dollars a year to fund these ILLEGALS. This group of blind little sheep can hold their signs and speak for themselves but, they don’t speak for “The American people”. The majority doesn’t agree with anything they stand for.
